Description:
Volunteering on the construction site is a fun and rewarding experience. Please remember this is a real construction site. You’ll be helping us with hard work, and you will get dirty. Don't worry if you don't have experience - our team is here to teach you!
Projects are subject to change, and we will do our best to provide you with the most up-to-date information. If you are unsure where to go, please text (904) 242-1891 or email volunteer@beacheshabitat.org.
If you are completing hours for a legal requirement, please visit https://www.beacheshabitat.org/community-service/ to review acceptable offenses and requirements for documentation and to submit your information for approval before scheduling hours.
ORIENTATION: After all volunteers are checked in, we will begin with a prayer and welcome circle. If you're not comfortable participating in the prayer, please join in after the prayer for our welcome and safety information. After the safety information, volunteers will be divided into groups and paired with a leader.
TOOLS & EQUIPMENT: If you have them, please bring a hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, and basic hand tools, like a hammer, utility knife, speed square, tape measure, pencil, etc. We will have plenty available if you don't have them! Please do not bring power tools.
CLOTHING AND FOOTWEAR: Dress for the weather and wear layers that you can add/remove. Please be sure to wear modest, comfortable clothing that you don't mind getting dirty. Long pants are recommended to minimize splinters and scrapes, but shorts are acceptable. Sturdy, thick-soled shoes that cover your entire foot are required, such as work boots, hiking boots, or athletic shoes.
VALUABLES: There is no safe place to store personal belongings. Please leave valuables at home or locked in your car.
FOOD & DRINKS: A water cooler with single-use paper cups will be available. Volunteers are encouraged to bring a water bottle! We will take a break around 10 am (10:30 on Saturdays) - snacks will be provided, and you are welcome to bring your own snacks.
SAFETY TRAINING: It is recommended that all volunteers complete a safety course offered by our partner, Lockton Affinity, prior to volunteering. Please visit HFHAffiliateInsurance.com/courses, enter the Employee Access Code W8NAEBTG, and select "Volunteering On A Habitat for Humanity Job Site" from the list of recommended courses.
CODE of CONDUCT: All volunteers are expected to follow the volunteer code of conduct as outlined at https://www.beacheshabitat.org/volunteer-code-of-conduct/
