PLEASE READ BEFORE REGISTERING:

 

Because we ask for a six month commitment for adults who are interested in volunteering at the shelter, middle school, high school or college students looking for short term volunteer opportunities to complete community service hours for middle, high school, or college credit have the option to complete their hours in one of two ways and do not need to attend an adult orientation class:

 

  • HES Boutique and Thrift - Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age to volunteer by themselves. Volunteers between the ages of 12 – 16 are eligible to attend with a parent volunteering alongside of them. Volunteers wishing to complete their community service hours at the thrift store will need to fill out the application online at: https://www.heschatt.org/hesthrift\

 

  • Tuesday Enrichment Night – Join a crew of volunteers to help make enrichment treats in bulk for both dogs and cats. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age to volunteer by themselves. Volunteers between the ages of 12 – 16 are eligible to attend with a parent volunteering alongside of them. All volunteers who wish to complete their community service hours at the shelter must sign up in advance using the following link: https://cerv.is/0108x204

 

Requirements for Adult Volunteers

 

  • This class is geared towards individuals who are able to commit to a recurring shift at the shelter and can commit to at least 6 months of consistent volunteering.
  • Thoroughly read the Volunteer Handbook
  • Our Volunteer Program requires that all volunteers have access to internet and email. Our volunteer site is online and volunteers are required to use this site to apply, complete training, and sign up for their volunteer shifts. 
  • Adult volunteers who are at least 12 years old and up are required to commit to a regular recurring schedule of at least two 3-hour shifts a month and will be assigned a recurring schedule based on their availability once they have completed orientation. 
  • Attend Volunteer Orientation. 
  • For a charge of $10 per person, you will receive training and an HES t-shirt. 
  • Volunteers age 7-15 must be accompanied by an adult at all times through training and volunteer duties.
  • We use the Band program as our primary source of communication with volunteers. New volunteers will be asked to download the Band app and sign up for an account using their first and last name.
