National Night Out Olney 2024

National Night Out (http://natw.org) is held on the first Tuesday of August each year. It is a national program which encourages communities to meet with and get to know the emergency responders in their community through a street fair environment with music, apparatus, and activities.  This will be our third year participating in Olney's event, and it is always well-attended, low-key, and enjoyable.

 

Please note that some details are still being worked out, and the following should be regarded as tentative but subject to change.

 

If we want to wash 700 at Station 40 (as I believe we did last year), we are asked to be at Station 40 prior to 1600 (closer to 1500 would be ideal due to the number of units gathering in the Station parking lot).  At this time, we expect to be part of the apparatus parade from the Station to the Shopping Center.  However, this may change due to the parade route and overall layout of the event being more complex than in previous years and with less access for apparatus.

 

Volunteers who wish to ride in on CERT 700 and potentially ride in the parade should plan to meet at CSB NO LATER THAN 1500. Volunteers are also welcome to take their private vehicles directly to Fair Hill shopping center where we will muster at 1645.  PLEASE do not take private vehicles to Station 40.

 

FROM 1700-2000,  we will be leading tours of CERT 700 for the General Public. In addition, we will be staffing an information table to talk to attendees about various topics related to Public Safety, Emergency Preparedness, and MC-CERT.  We have also been asked to bring misting fans to help keep attendees cool.  This will also be a good opportunity to illustrate our fire scene rehab missions.

 

At approximately 2000 we will load out, personnel with private vehicles on site will be dismissed, and CERT 700 will return to CSB, where remaining personnel will be dismissed.
