VR - RSPB Loch Lomond Reserve Evening Visits

Background to project/event and objectives:

To offer an out of hours presence and visitor engagement along the trails when gates are open to visitors, but RSPB staff are not around. Your presence will help give a sense of security to visitors, hopefully deter any anti-social behaviour and also help us to monitor behaviour across the site. A short report after the patrol detailing any issues would be beneficial.

We are particularly keen to deter people from trying to get close to the beaver habitat. Due to the sensitivity of the newly released beavers, we are asking people to stay on the path around the wetland area. Beavers are European Protected Species and disturbance is a legal matter. We are monitoring how often people are attempting to get too close to them so having these evening records will help us with future planning as well as with putting people off. There will be signage up in these areas. We are also keen to know how visitors are using the site in the evening, e.g are dogs being kept on leads, are there people camping?

 

What would you like the volunteers to do:

Park in the visitor car park and walk from there to Netbay (5km) in total. Engaging with visitors and reporting back the following day anything of concern (eg people off path, dogs off leads, litter, antisocial behaviour). You will not be expected to deal with any issues, concentrating on chatting to visitors and reporting any issues.

 

Activity Level:  Moderate to easy

 

Protective Equipment Required: None

 

Volunteers to bring: Uniform, waterproof clothing, drinks and snacks

 

Specific knowledge or training required: Knowledge of Scottish Outdoor

Access code would be beneficial but not essential
