Title of Project: West Highland Way Path Maintenance

Background to project and project objectives:

The WHW needs constant maintenance to ensure it is safe and pleasurable for walkers to use.  This ongoing project will ensure:


  1. the drainage features of the West Highland Way are in good order to protect the path from erosion,
  2. and the vegetation does not encroach onto the path.

What would you like the volunteers to do?
Help the East Loch Lomond Ranger Team to undertake a small amount of maintenance that could consist of:


  • lopping and sawing small branches, brambles and other vegetation
  • clearing cross drains and water bars
  • plus attending to any other path issues such as re-profiling or clearing muddy sections

Activity Level: Moderate - Walking over undulating paths, carrying out some light maintenance.

Protective Equipment required: Work gloves & toe protected footwear.

Volunteers to bring:  Food and drink plus waterproof/warm clothing & suitable footwear. Gloves can be provided if you don’t have your own.
