Opportunity Details | 2024 Overnight Shelter Support
Opportunity Name:
2024 Overnight Shelter Support |
|
Description:
Important Accessibility Note: Volunteers must be able to walk up a full flight of stairs to access the overnight apartment.Overnight volunteers fulfill a critical role in the organization, ensuring support in the event of an emergency. These slots are filled by special volunteers who understand the vital importance of being a reliable presence for the families overnight. Although the shift may be quiet, the comforting presence of volunteers is a gift to our families and staff. You will stay in the live-in manager's upstairs apartment where you have access to a full private bath, kitchen and a full-sized futon for sleeping. We ask that you bring your own bed linens and pillow, towels for the bathroom, a good book or your computer (wireless is available). While you are free to interact with the families in the common areas after your initial check-in with them, you may also choose to spend the remainder of your shift in the apartment. You are expected to do nothing more than be present in the apartment and get a good night’s sleep. You will know how many families are living in the shelter and you will have a contact number in the rare case of an emergency.
Shift: 8:30pm - 8:30am (negotiable, if you need to get off to work/family commitments earlier) Volunteer Requirements
