Pop-up Food Distribution College Park - Oxnard

Opportunity Name: Pop-up Food Distribution College Park – Oxnard.

Who is receiving the food? Ventura County clients in need of food assistance.

What time are the clients arriving? They start lining up at 10am.

What time does the distribution start? 2:00PM (earlier if we are ready to launch).

What will you be doing? Depending on your shift time:

12:30pm-4:00pm shift will help register clients name, address, zip, number in household, answering one question, and placing a tag/ticket onto windshield. Be able to stand for three-four hours. Please hydrate before arriving. 

1:15-4pm shift will help us run a drive through pop-up food pantry at College Park. You will be placing boxes of food into trunks of cars (Produce boxes weigh 12-13 lb. & Food Share food box is15lb), traffic control (telling cars when they need to stop and when they can leave), and breakdown at this site.  Be able to stand for three-four hours. Please hydrate before arriving. 

When does this take place? Every Wednesday year-round 

Where will this opportunity take place? College Park, 3250 South Rose Ave., Oxnard, CA 93033

What is the volunteer shift time? 12:30-4pm or 1:15pm-4pm (shift will end when food runs out or last client is served) Please be patient while we get things going and conduct the brief on what to do.

Where do I park: Parking: Park across from the skate park inside the park. As you enter the park and turn right you will see a skate park to your left and a parking lot to your right. Park in the parking lot to your right. Walk to the Food Share check-in table. Do not park in the Channel Islands high school parking lot.

Where do I check-in?  The volunteer check-in table is located by the pop-up tents.

 

Who do I check-in with? Jenny, Christina, Laura, Jess at the Food Share check-in table once you get into the park. 

 

What do I wear? Casual, layered, and modest clothing. Closed toe shoes are required for safety reasons. A safety vest (provided upon arrival). Disposable gloves available upon request. Check the weather prior to arriving and dress appropriately. This is a rain or shine event.

 

What happens if the weather is bad? This is a rain or shine event. 

 

Additional information to know:

You MUST be 12 years of age or older to volunteer at a pop-up site. No exceptions. Parent supervision is still required on-site for ages 12-16.

 

Always use caution at this distribution due to moving vehicles and pedestrians. We want everyone to be safe while helping the community.  

 

Treat all people with dignity and respect. Maintain confidentiality for those recipients' receiving assistance. Do not engage in or tolerate unwanted or unwelcome sexual behavior. Report all violations or conflicts to staff management. Accommodate people with disabilities and persons with limited English proficiency. Please do not take photographs of clients.
