Disaster Box Packing

Hello Volunteers! Thank you for helping to pack food into emergency boxes getting them ready for distribution to those who are in need of food. Your goal is to pack 8 pallets/480 boxes per shift. You will either be packing food for the college park food distribution using disaster boxes, or packing food for our farmworker community.

 

No walk-ins.  All participants are required to sign-up for a spot below, sign-in upon arrival, and sign-out upon departure.

 

Off-site location:

521 North Elevar
Oxnard, CA 93030

Off Rice and Camino Del Sol and then a left on Elevar.

 

Parking: NO STREET PARKING! YOU WILL BE TOWED OR TICKETED OR BOTH.  Park in any open spaces directly behind building.  The building is a temporary space for Food Share.  

 

Best suited for those volunteers who can:

1) Safely do repetitive lifting, twisting, and bending.

2) Safely lift & carry filled boxes weighing less than ten pounds and up to thirty-five pounds. (Be aware that at no time will you be asked or required to lift any weight beyond your known or perceived strength levels and capabilities.) Ask a staff member or a peer volunteer to help lift any product you feel is too heavy for your strength ability.

3)  Stand for 2-3 hours.

 

Appropriate suggested attire:  Layered casual modest clothing.  Closed toed shoes are a must! Anyone wearing flip flops or other inappropriate shoes will not be able to participate. Wearing any type of clothing, shoes or jewelry that may increase the risk of accident or injury while participating in the activity is restricted.

Enter through the back warehouse door located in the private parking lot.

 

Once in the building check in that you arrived for the activity on your mobile device or on the provided tablet. Let staff know if you are having trouble signing-in. The location service must be on to sign in via the mobile device.  There is a link in the confirmation email and text allowing sign up via your mobile phone. The confirmation email and text go out prior to event date.
