Opportunity Details | Girls on the Run - Spring 5K Celebration

Opportunity Name:
Girls on the Run - Spring 5K Celebration

Description:

Help support this year's Girls on the Run end of season 5K celebration!

At Girls on the Run Greater Sacramento, teaching essential life skills is the cornerstone of our research-based programs. The Girls on the Run researched-based curriculum is structured around understanding ourselves, valuing relationships and teamwork, and recognizing how we can shape the world at large. Participants gain critical life skills that strengthen their potential at a time when societal pressures and conflicting messages about how to feel and act can cause doubt and uncertainty.

Anyone who has been to a Girls on the Run 5K knows that it is unlike any other running event.  It is a celebration of and for the girls who are completing a 10 week season of Girls on the Run programming. By the day of the 5K, their enthusiasm is so unbridled that they are running around before the race!  Positive energy abounds as the girls dance to warm-up music, bling their bib and get their face painted, and gather with their teammates to hold hands as they head to the starting line.  Our 5K is a non-competitive event that will bring a smile to your face!  You will be so glad you joined us!

Every GOTR girl is required to have a Running Buddy accompany her at the 5K. A Running Buddy is an individual designated by the council or by the parent/guardian to complete the 5K alongside a program participant during the 5K event, for the entire duration of the course.  Running Buddies ensure the safety of the girl and support and encourage her throughout the entire 5K course.

Volunteer to be part of this inspirational event and support GOTR's mission to empower youth in our community.
