Opportunity Name:
Catawba Riverkeeper Land/Water Cleanup 6/8

Description:

Join Catawba Riverkeeper to remove trash from the land around Mountain Island Lake and from on the water via motorboats in Mt Holly, NC. Mountain Island Lake is an important lake in the Catawba River Basin as it provides essential urban natural habitat, recreation through trails and parks, and supplies the drinking water source for our neighbors to the south. The Catawba River's main channel spans 225 miles in length and the Catawba-Wateree Basin encompasses 8,900 miles of smaller waterways throughout 26 counties in two states (NC/SC). We are truly thankful you are donating your time and service to enhance the health of our shared water network!

Weather Policy: Volunteer programs operate rain or shine. We will cancel events due to inclement weather including but not limited to, thunder/lightning storms, extreme winds, and flood waters. Due to the nature of weather events, we make this call by 2:00pm the day before the event

Registration Details:

  • Registered volunteers can expect an email reminder with more details 1 week before the event AND 1 day before the event.
  • Registration for this event will close at midnight on Friday, June 7.

When:
Saturday, June 8th: 9am - 11:30am

Location:
Riverbend Boat Ramp
Eddie Nichols Dr, Mt Holly

  • There is plenty of parking at the site - head down to the lower lot.
  • There are no bathrooms on-site.

Check In:

  • Please look for the Catawba Riverkeeper tent by the parking lot to check in.

    • We will be ready to check in volunteers 15-30 min early.
  • All volunteers will sign a volunteer activity waiver on site if they have not registered online in advance.

*We are working with local residents to try to get a few motorboats to take people to Mountain Island, just south of the Riverbend Boat Access. Because we are relying on volunteers for boats, signing up for a motorboat shift does not guarantee that spot. It will depend on how many boats we are able to get and their capacities. Thank you for your understanding.

  • Please wear closed-toe shoes or shoes with a heal strap that you don't mind possibly getting dirty.
  • Please wear clothes that you don’t mind possibly getting dirty.
