Description:
Volunteer with GrowNYC's Compost Program to promote composting in New York City. Every Friday, food scraps are collected from neighborhood residents at the E. 96th St. subway station and transported to a local compost site for processing. Volunteers will help Compost Coordinators manage this busy food scrap drop-off site by assisting with outreach and physical work. No experience necessary, just bring a positive attitude and enthusiasm for waste reduction, composting, and recycling!
Volunteer tasks: - Assist with participant counts with a tally counter - Help open and close bins - Help answer recycling and composting questions from the public - Help remove contaminants from the bins (e.g. plastic bags) and pack down food scraps with a shovel
PLEASE READ THE INFORMATION BELOW BEFORE YOU SIGN UP: Requirements: Volunteers must be 18 years or older, have previously attended the GrowNYC Volunteer Orientation, and signed our waiver.
