Opportunity Name:
Food Scrap Collection | 97th Street GM (Friday) - (May)

Description:

Volunteer with GrowNYC's Compost Program to promote composting in New York City. Every Friday, food scraps are collected from neighborhood residents at the 97th St. Greenmarket and transported to a local compost site for processing. Volunteers will help Compost Coordinators manage this busy food scrap drop-off site by assisting with outreach and physical work. No experience necessary, just bring a positive attitude and enthusiasm for waste reduction, composting, and recycling!

Volunteer tasks:

- Assist with participant counts with a tally counter

- Help open and close bins

- Help answer recycling and composting questions from the public

- Help remove contaminants from the bins (e.g. plastic bags) and pack down food scraps with a shovel

PLEASE READ THE INFORMATION BELOW BEFORE YOU SIGN UP:

Requirements:
Volunteers must be 18 years or older, have previously attended the GrowNYC Volunteer Orientation, and signed our waiver.
