Description:
Volunteer with GrowNYC's Compost Program to promote composting in New York City. Every Sunday, food scraps are collected from neighborhood residents at the Columbia University Greenmarket and transported to a local compost site for processing. Volunteers will help Compost Coordinators manage this busy food scrap drop-off site by assisting with outreach and physical work. No experience necessary, just bring a positive attitude and enthusiasm for waste reduction, composting, and recycling!
Volunteer tasks: - Assist with participant counts with a tally counter - Help open and close bins - Help answer recycling and composting questions from the public - Help remove contaminants from the bins (e.g. plastic bags) and pack down food scraps with a shovel

Requirements: Volunteers must be 18 years or older, have previously attended the GrowNYC Volunteer Orientation, and signed our waiver.
