HomeFirst welcomes teens and their chaperones ONLY to serve dinner to the Sunnyvale Shelter guests on Student Service Nights: 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month!  


 


Meals will be cooked and delivered to the Sunnyvale Shelter by HomeFirst staff. Dinner service volunteers will help with final meal preparation under the supervision of shelter staff. For example: tossing salads, slicing bread, and plating food. Volunteers will also assist with distributing plates and beverages to shelter guests, clearing and wiping tables, cleaning up spills, etc. 


 


Having community members serve dinner at the shelter shows our guests that our community cares about the unhoused! 


 


Volunteering Requirements: 




  • ALL volunteers must be fully vaccinated (i.e., initial dose + one booster) for COVID-19. Proof of vaccination must be on file before first shift. If you have a vaccination exemption, a negative test result can be shown upon arrival at the shelter. Tests must come from an accredited lab (i.e., no at-home tests) and must have been performed in the previous 72 hours of the volunteer event. 


  • Regular and on-going shelter volunteers (i.e, those who volunteer 8 or more hours per year) must have proof of a negative TB test on file. The test must be  


  • Volunteers at Sunnyvale must be at least 13 years old. Volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult (i.e., 21+ years of age) chaperone. One adult can chaperone up to 5 minors. 


  • Volunteers must comply with standard middle and high school dress codes. Long hair should be pulled back, and hairnets are required during meal service. 


Upon arrival at the shelter, you will need to take your temperature and check in with staff. The staff will record your temperature and ask if you have experienced any symptoms. 


  


Face coverings must always be worn while inside the shelter.
