Description:

Enjoy helping our participants as they train and compete in individual golf skills, such as short putt, long putt, chip shot, drive and iron shot.  This event is to help athletes learn skills they can advance with later in 9 & 18 hole golf competitions. Athletes will take part in 9 hole or 18 hole competitions for course play. 

 

Event Information Desk:  Volunteers will be responsible for signing in volunteers, giving out volunteer assignments, and distributing volunteer shirts.  Volunteers are also responsible for managing hospitality and answering questions from spectators and coaches.

 

Caddie/Scorekeeper - Course Play These volunteers will be responsible for tallying the amount of shots taken by the assigned competitors and adding on penalty shots of a violation occurs.  They will drive the athlete's clubs to the location of their next shot in a golf cart (athletes must walk).  Volunteers will be asked to assist with cleanup at the end of the event. Caddy's will be asked to stay for the duration of their assigned athlete's course play. The opportunity is scheduled from 7:30am (you will be assigned an athlete) to 3:30pm, but each athlete's end time may be different. Please plan to hang at the course for most of the day. If you have to leave earlier, communicate with the SOMT staff member and Venue Director on site. 

 

Station Facilitator/Scorekeeper - Individual Skills:  Volunteers will be responsible for the operation of the stations, and recording competitor scores at each station.  Volunteers will be asked to assist with cleanup at the end of the event.

 

Setup - Individual Skills:  this volunteer will assist the venue director setting up individual skill stations for short putt, long putt, wood shot, iron shot, pitch shot and chip shot. 

 

Marshal for Course Play:  This volunteer will be responsible for assigning a caddie to each competitor/team, as well as ensuring competitors start promptly at their assigned tee time.  They will also be responsible for collecting competitor scorecards from the caddies at the completion of the competitors 9 or 18 holes.  Volunteers will be asked to assist with cleanup at the end of the event.

 

Marshal for Individual Skills:  This marshal will be responsible for confirming competitors are present for their division start time, and sending confirmed divisions to their starting skill stations.  Volunteers will be asked to assist with cleanup at the end of the event.

 

Officials - Individual Skills:  Officials will be responsible for enforcing Special Olympics rules for golf.  They will be responsible for fielding questions from station facilitators about potential violations, and watching for violations during competition. They will collect score sheets at competitor's last stations.  Volunteers will be asked to assist with cleanup at the end of the event.
