2024 State Summer Games - Swimming May15

Swimming is one of the most popular sports in world. Unlike other sports, swimming is a life skill that is taught, first, to ensure safety and, secondly, for sports and competition purposes.  

 

Event Information Desk:  Volunteers will be responsible for signing in volunteers, giving out volunteer assignments, and distributing volunteer shirts.  Volunteers are also responsible for managing hospitality and answering questions from spectators and coaches.

 

Lead Timer:  Lead timer will oversee the timers to ensure the results of each athlete are recorded and order of placing is accurate.  They will approve the final results for each race and give the recorded results to the awards team representative.  They will brief the timers before the competition starts to ensure they understand their role.  The lead timer will be asked to assist with cleanup at the end of the competition.

 

Timers:  Timers will use stop watches to time each athlete's race from whistle start to when the athlete's hand touches the wall.  Timers will be asked to assist with cleanup at the end of the competition.

 

Athlete Escort Coordinator:  The coordinator will be responsible for assigning volunteer escorts to each division that is being marshaled.  They will assist escorts with assembling the divisions.  The coordinator will be asked to assist with cleanup at the end of the competition.

 

Athlete Escorts:  Escorts are responsible for marshaling and taking the divisions to the staging area, staying within the division throughout the competition, then escorting them to the Awards Area.  They will then return to pick up another division from the Athlete Escort Coordinator.  Escorts will be asked to assist with cleanup at the end of the competition.

 

 

Starter:  The starter will be responsible for making sure all athletes are assigned their own lane, and responsible for starting the race while watching for false starts. Starters will be asked to assist with cleanup at the end of the competition.

 

Officials:  Officials will be responsible for enforcing Special Olympics rules for swimming and report any infractions to the lead timer.  Officials will be asked to assist with cleanup at the end of the competition.

 

 

Medical:  As our athletes complete in the Special Olympics Summer Games, we will ensure their safety by having medical staff on hand at various events. For trained medical personals, please see the open volunteer position. Prior to the games, you will be asked to provide your certification information.
