Description:
The sport of athletics encourages athletes of all abilities and ages to compete at their optimum level. Through the track-and-field-based athletics training program, participants can develop total fitness to compete in any sport. As with all Special Olympics sports, athletics offers athletes the opportunity to learn through skill development and competitive settings and to be involved in large social settings. Athletics will take place May 15th and May 17th during the Summer Special Olympics.
Event Information Desk: Volunteers will be responsible for signing in volunteers, giving out volunteer assignments, and distributing volunteer shirts. Volunteers are also responsible for managing hospitality and answering questions from spectators and coaches.
Athlete Escorts: Escorts will be responsible for escorting the marshaled division of athletes to their event and then escorting them to receive their awards. Athlete escorts will be expected to escort multiple divisions throughout the event.
Athlete Escort Coordinator: The Athlete Escort Coordinator will help assign Athlete Escorts to divisions (groups of 2-8) of athletes. The Athlete Escorts will escort athletes to the start line of their race or the competition area.
Head Marshall: They will be responsible for gathering athletes in their assigned division in staging and handing divisions over to the Assistant Marshal to their competition area.
Assistant Marshals: They will be responsible for assisting the Head Marshal with confirming that all the athletes are present for their assigned divisions and sending confirmed divisions to their competition area with their volunteer escort.
Vector Crew: This crew will help measure the distance of the throws and help manage the throwing equipment.
Shotput Crew: The crew will help measure the distance of the throws and help manage the throwing equipment.
Jumps Crew: This crew will be responsible for measuring the distance of jumps and help maintain the pit safety by raking sand and leveling the pit as needed.
Results Recorder: This volunteer will be responsible for recording the results for each event on the heat sheet.
Track Access Crew: These volunteers will be responsible for checking coach field passes (which give them access to the infield) and ensuring people moving to the infield do not impede competitors on the track.
Announcer: The announcer will announce upcoming events and/or divisions currently being marshaled. They will also be responsible for making special announcements as needed.
