Description:
Bocce is an Italian game. The basic principle of the sport is to roll a bocce ball closest to the target ball, which is called a palina. Bocce as a Special Olympics sport provides people with special needs the opportunity to have social contact, develop physically and to gain self-confidence. Next to soccer and golf, bocce is the third most participated sport in the world.
Head Marshal Head Marshalls will assist the athlete escorts by assigning them teams to locate and bring to the competition area. The head marshal is in charge of making sure teams are ready to compete when their field is available, ensuring an even flow of competition.
Athlete Escorts escorts will locate the team members and escort them to the appropriate court for competition, assigned by the Head Marshal. They will remain with team and at the end of the competition will escort the team to the awards area.
Head Official Head Officials will monitor the throwing order for each team. Measure the distance to the palina from each competitor's ball when necessary or requested by a team member. Designated the winner of each point.
Assistant Official Assistants will assist the head official in measure the distance to palina from each competitor's ball when necessary or requested by a team member. They will be score and time keeper.
Bocce Venue & Court Setup Set up tents, chairs, and signage for the venue before competition begins. Set up bocce courts at Rocky Mountain College Herb Klindt Field. Need to be able to lift, bend and push plastic pipe together.
Bocce Information Desk Check in teams and sign in volunteers. Give out assignments and shirts. Be available to answer questions during the games. Volunteers will also manage hospitality and questions from spectators and coaches.
Bocce Court Takedown Assist with clean-up of tents, signage, and SOMT gear. Take down bocce courts and load into truck.
Medical As our athletes complete in the Special Olympics Summer Games, we will ensure their safety by having medical staff on hand at various events. For trained medical personals, please see the open volunteer position. Prior to the games, you will be asked to provide your certification information.
