2024 State Summer Games Opening Ceremonies & Team BBQ

Opening Ceremonies is an incredible event that officially opens the State Summer Games!!  Athletes are welcomed by cheers and fanfare, as they begin three days of fun and achievement.  We are looking for volunteers to support set up of festivities, the Team BBQ in the Exhibit Hall ahead of the event, quiet room attendants, volunteers to help orchestrate the Parade of Athletes ahead of Opening Ceremonies, and a clean-up crew to help take down decorations after the event!

 

Come be a part of something special!  

 

Set Up Crew: Volunteers will help hang sponsor banners, assemble décor (including working with balloons, organize signage, and other tasks as needed.) 

 

Team BBQ Support: Volunteers will help support set up, serving and cleanup of the Team BBQ. 

 

Lead Escort: Volunteers will manage Delegation Escorts, distribute pom poms to athletes, and be the entrance manager of their staging area. They will direct teams to the floor when they are announced for the Parade of Athletes. 

 

Delegation Sign Table Attendants: Volunteers will help organize Delegation (team) signs with SOMT staff and pair teams with escorts for the parade.  

 

Ushers: Ushers will be in the stadium, with maps showing where each delegation is seated. Ushers will also help teams navigate to exits at the completion of the event. 

 

Delegation (Team) Escorts (1 per team): Volunteers will lead teams from the Team BBQ to the staging area for Parade of Athletes, and then march into the stadium with the delegation to help them find their seats on the floor. 

 

Quiet Room Attendants: Volunteers will provide a quiet space with alternate activities for athletes that may need a break from Opening Ceremonies. At the end of the event, these volunteers will pack up supplies in boxes and bring them to the loading area. 

 

Clean Up Crew: Volunteers will take down decorations, sponsor banners, and help load designated vehicles to transport supplies to other locations (no driving required).
