Description:
Emergency Support Services (ESS) is a provincial program delivered by Local Authorities and First Nations’ Governments that meets the basic needs of British Columbians impacted by disasters by providing  support in a compassionate manner.
British Columbians forced from their homes by fire, floods, earthquakes or other emergencies may receive emergency support services (ESS). 
Volunteer responsibilities may include;
• Family reunification
• Providing information about the crisis
• To assist people, to meet their basic needs: food, clothing and lodging, pet care as well as emotional support.
 
*** Courses are continually offered by the Justice Institute at no cost to the volunteer.
 

Useful skills:
  • good oral and written communications
  • comfortable with computers and basic data entry
  • comfortable working in a busy environment
  • good organizational skills
  • compassionate and good listening 
  • committed and passionate about serving evacuees
  • comfortable working with people who have experienced stress or trauma

Open to:

Adults over the age of 18
