Opportunity Details | Longvalley Tree Planting, Saturday, June 1

Opportunity Name:
Longvalley Tree Planting, Saturday, June 1

Description:

Join Glenview TreeKeepers, Boy Scout Troop 55, and the Village of Glenview to plant 10 trees, 12 shrubs, and about 500 prairie/wetland plant plugs at a newly completed streambank stabilization project. The project turns a vacant parcel to a community asset featuring streambank stabilization, in-stream habitat/aeration structures, and river bank restoration using trees and native vegetation. The project was partially funded through Section 319 of the federal Clean Water Act due to its benefits of reducing pollutant runoff into the river.

The event will include a brief discussion about trees and tree planting, hands-on planting work, and a public tour of the site. Prepare for interaction with cicadas as well!

Certified TreeKeepers will instruct/assist Scouts and other volunteers on tree planting and mulching. TreeKeepers are also requested to lead a tour of the area. If you have questions, please contact Robyn Flakne, Natural Resources Manager, Village of Glenview 847-904-4536, rflakne@glenview.il.us
