Opportunity Name:
Glen Doll Conservation Days

Description:

If you get satisfaction from doing practical work outside in all weather this is the role for you!

Imagine completing a bridge over a ditch and walking over it for the first time or finishing off a fence line - you'll leave legacies for many years to come. Or if you are looking for work experience in the conservation or habitat conservation industry then this is for you.

We are looking for keen and willing volunteers who would like to help with practical habitat and estate management (trail maintenance, fencing, habitat and species surveying and monitoring, general maintenance, invasive non-native species management, etc).

Glen Doll is a stunning area and very busy during the summer. It’s really important to help this area keep thriving for wildlife, flora and fauna. Some rare species live in this Glen and protecting them is a very important task.

Some of our work can be physically strenuous so volunteers would need to have a relatively good level of fitness and be happy and comfortable walking over uneven ground as much of our work involves walking across rough ground to the work area. A Ranger will accompany you and meet you at the Glen Doll Ranger Base before you begin.

Please note that the minimum age for our volunteering days is 16 years old.

We provide all personal protective equipment you will need. It is advisable to bring waterproofs that you don’t mind getting a bit mucky.

Clothing: All volunteers should bring appropriate footwear (waterproof boots with firm ankle support), gloves, and appropriate clothing (long sleeves and long trousers, waterproofs, cap / sun hat) to cover them for changing weather conditions. No shorts should be worn as ticks are present in the area. Volunteers may wish to wear clothes they do not mind getting dirty.

Insect repellent & sunscreen: Volunteers should apply insect repellent (to repel biting insects / ticks) and use sunscreen to avoid sun burn.

Food / water: Volunteers should bring lots of water and food as weather may be hot and work physical and tiring.

Lunch breaks: We will stop for a lunch break during the task, but please feel free to take as many breaks as you require, and keep yourself well fed and well hydrated.

Please note that there no phone signal in this area.
