Current Opportunities

Historic Site Docents

Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site is currently recruiting energetic individuals to serve as volunteer Historic Site Docents. We are looking for volunteers that:

  • Love history!
  • Want to give back to their community and educate visitors from all over the world about the history of the Pikes Peak region,
  • Enjoy working and interacting with people of all ages and backgrounds,
  • Are excited to learn new things and share their knowledge with others,
  • Can easily adapt and enjoy a varying paced environment,
  • Are flexible and open to feedback as they learn new things.

Historic Site Docents wear period clothing, guide tours, and demonstrate historic duties, cooking, and crafts. An interview and training will be conducted about Rock Ledge Ranch historyAssigned historic site is based on skills, knowledge, interest, availability and background check. Generally, volunteers serve one to two times per week in the summer, and during Special Events throughout the year. Shifts are 4 hours.

 

  • American Indian Area Docent
  • 1860's Galloway Homestead Docent
  • Garden (Orchard House Garden)
    • Gardeners that do not dress in period clothing work before/after program hours
  • Woodworking Shop (woodworking, broom making during special events)
  • 1880's Rock Ledge House Docent
  • Blacksmith Shop Docent (Requires previous blacksmith experience)
  • Woodworking Shop (Requires previous woodworking experience)
  • 1907 Orchard House Docent
  • Docents and Volunteers also help to give presentations and/or guide classes for the School Programs in the April and October, and during Special Events throughout the year.


All Rock Ledge Ranch Volunteers are required to interview, submit for a background check, and attend training. When placing new docents, the museum considers interests, skills, availability to determine if the role is the best fit for the prospective docent and vice versa.

SCHOOL PROGRAM VOLUNTEERS

We are currently recruiting guides for the April and October and School Programs. This is a 2-4 hour commitment, available Wednesdays- Fridays for 3 weeks. No formal training required. We’ll give you the schedule, and you keep the interpreters and you your group on track.

SPECIAL EVENT VOLUNTEERS

Volunteers assist with special event activities (vary per event). From taking tickets, greeting visitors, pie and lemonade sales, helping in the office, and more! All shifts are 4 hours during the event and assigned in pairs to take a break.

GARDENING VOLUNTEERS

Help fellow gardening volunteers keep-up the Orchard House Garden. Weeding, pruning, and tend to donated plants.
