Dix Park Kirby Derby

The Kirby Derby is a Raleigh tradition of wacky downhill soapbox racing and community fun. Founded by the Pullen Park Terrace neighborhood in 2002; Pullen Park Terrace is better known by its 2 streets, Kirby and Bilyeu. In 2017, Kirby Derby moved to its new location at Dix Park in partnership with the City of Raleigh.

 

Duties and Impact:

By volunteering, you will help foster community spirit and tradition! Volunteers are needed for the following positions:

• Race attendant- Help direct racers to proper stations and start lines. Help keep crowd safe crossing race way between events. 
• Green Team- Help keep the event space clean by picking up trash and throwing away in proper areas.

Work Environment:

We will be working outside in the elements. It will be hot, so bring sun protection! There is the possibility for uneven ground. There will be a restroom on site.

 

Requirements:

• Ages 15+. Those under 16 must have a parent/guardian present
• Complete a release form (if prompted). Those under 18 will need a parent/guardian signature

Other Instructions:

• Wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing
• Wear close-toed sneakers or hiking boots
• Bring your own filled water bottle

Per department policy, this volunteer opportunity is not to be used towards court-appointed/ suggested community service hours.
