Juneteenth Celebration at Dix Park

Join Dix Park in celebrating the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the abolition of slavery in the United States.

 

Duties and Impact:

Volunteers will help provide information at the welcome tent, direct people to different parts of the event, and assist with trash collection. Volunteers will be spreading joy and awareness for one of the nation's most important celebrations!

 

Work Environment:

We will be working outside in the elements, so please be prepared for the heat. We are anticipating large crowds and loud noises as there will a stage with music. There is the possibility for uneven ground. There will be port-o-johns on site. There will also be food trucks on site. Some volunteers may be needed to assist in the Chapel as well.

 

Requirements:

• Ages 15+. Those under 16 must have a parent/guardian present
• Complete a release form (if prompted). Those under 18 will need a parent/guardian signature

Other Instructions:

• Wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing
• Wear close-toed sneakers or hiking boots
• Bring your own filled water bottle, hat/sunglasses, and sunscreen, and snacks or money to buy food from the on-site food trucks
• We are supplying water, snacks, and sunscreen

Per department policy, this volunteer opportunity is not to be used towards court-appointed/ suggested community service hours.
