Opportunity Name:
Wake County Senior Games, Swimming

Description:

Wake County Senior Games is an Olympic-style event designed to create year-round health promotion and competition for participants that are 50+ years old. The WCSG is hosted by various local businesses and municipalities, and rely heavily on volunteers to help us make these games a success. The swimming portion of this event will include competitions for all strokes in the 50 yard, 100 yard, 200 yard; 100 yard / 200 yard IM; and the 500 yard Freestyle.

Duties and Impact:

By volunteering for this event, you are helping to provide a platform for active adults to showcase their talents. As volunteers you would assist with several different jobs associated with this event and will be assigned upon your arrival. This may include:

  • Setting up and placing equipment, putting out tables, and helping staff get ready.
  • Participant check-in, giving out shirts, and handing out snacks.
  • Scoring/time clock operating (you will receive onsite training when you arrive).
  • Cleaning up (gathering and removing equipment, boxing up leftovers, etc.).
  • Finally, be ready to cheer on our athletes! Invite your friends to come watch this amazing event!

Work Environment:

Volunteers will be working at an indoor swimming pool. Volunteers will be on their feet a majority of the time. There will be a restroom on site.

Requirements:

  • Ages 16+. Those under 18 must have a parent/guardian or a club/school adult representative present.
  • Complete a Wake County Senior Games waiver. Those under 18 will need a parent/guardian signature.
  • Volunteers must have good concentration and be able to continuously follow their racer while counting their laps.
  • Volunteers must know how to use a stopwatch.

Other Instructions:

  • Wear appropriate clothing for being at an indoor pool, comfortable shoes such as sneakers for standing and walking. Volunteers must also wear the shirt provided to them at check-in.
  • We provide some drinks and snacks, however, if you have special diet needs, please bring your own food. Meals are not provided; you may want to pack a small cooler.
  • Although we hope to stick to this event's timeframe, be aware that we may go over, or even be done early, depending on number of athletes that register.
