Event Description:

Special Olympics Minnesota is currently seeking volunteers to help with the 2019 State Gymnastics Meet at Gangelhoff Center on the campus of Concordia University in Saint Paul. 


Artistic Gymnastics - Friday, June 14

Rhythmic Gymnastics - Saturday, June 15


  • The time listed includes time for sign-in, orientation & training of your role.
  • You will receive a reminder email with additional information one to two weeks before the event.
  • You will receive a volunteer T-shirt to wear at the event.


Age Eligibility for Event Volunteers

  • 15 years and older can volunteer by themselves.
  • 12-14 year olds must be accompanied by parent, guardian, or chaperone.
  • 11 years and younger are not given volunteer assignments, but are welcomed and encouraged to be cheerleaders as long as they are accompanied by a parent, guardian, or chaperone.  Please do not register for any position.
  • 12-14 year olds in a group situation need a 4 to 1 ratio-meaning one adult (18 years old or older) for every three children.  These groups usually include scout troops, school classes, church groups, etc.

Volunteer Roles

Volunteer training will be provided for all positions--you don't need to have any experience, just a great attitude and willingness to be a part of a day that athletes look forward to all year!

  • Awards Assistants - responsible for assisting the awards team with presenting awards to each athlete.
  • Judge Attendant - Tends to all judges needs. Confirms Judges have water, note pads, pencils and so on.
  • Meet Announcer - Announces upcoming schedule, meet information and general announcements. The Meet Announcer plays an important role in ensuring competitors, volunteers and spectators have a high quality experience at the meet.
  • Music/Sound Assistant - Plays specific music for each athlete competing as instructed by gymnast coach (NOTE: music must not begin until the athlete is ready and the head judge has raised hand for athlete to begin). 
  • Score Room Assistant - Work with Special Olympics staff to confirm scores, assemble and place awards.
  • Judge - Must be a current or former gymnastics (Artistic or Rhythmic) judge, mature level 9 gymnast or high-level experienced high school gymnast (preferably age 16 ) artistic or rhythmic coach (may not be a current coach of any competing Special Olympics athletes).
