Event Description:

Region B South Spring Games Track and Field Meet is the largest single event held each year by Region B  Over 1200 athletes and 500 coaches will pack Prospect High School for a two day event of running, throwing and jumping. This event could not happen without the generosity of all the volunteers who come out to help.

 

As you scroll down you will find a timeline of events for the day as well as brief job descriptions of different positions we have to offer for the day.  

 

 

Sunday Event Timeline

7:30am - Volunteer Registration Opens

8:00am - Opening Ceremonies on the track

9:00am - Track competition begins

9:00am - Field competition begins

5:00pm - Games conclude

 

Morning of the Event

In the morning when you check-in at Volunteer Registration you'll be given you volunteer handbook and volunteer t-shirt.  You should wear you volunteer t-shirt to help identify who is a volunteer and who is not.

 

Volunteer Handbook  

In the volunteer handbook you receive at check-in it will have the following important information.

  • A Venue Map w/ location where you will be volunteer at
  • The key contact you'll check-in with at the venue
  • Job descriptions for jobs available at that venue (you'll be assign a job when you arrive at the venue)

Waiting List

We will contact you after April 1, letting you know if we are still in need of help. If you have any questions or have a group that would like to volunteer, please contact Katelin Zandi at kzandi@soill.org

 

Volunteer Registration

Check volunteers in, give them their volunteer handbook and volunteer t-shirt. 

 

Lunch Distribution

Package lunches for teams and venue locations.  Deliver lunches to venue locations. 

 

Parking Lot Assistant

Direct traffic in the parking.  Assist buses to their correct parking locations.  Monitor front gate. 

 

Bullpen/Start Line

Check in athletes.  Group athletes together by division.  Escort athletes to start line and make sure they stay in their lanes.  

 

Timer

Time an athlete during a race.  Help determine place of finish.

 

Finish Line Escort

Escort athletes to their awards area after their race.  Deliver results sheets to the correct awards area.

 

Running/Standing Long Jump/Shot Put

Check in athletes.  Line athletes up in correct order that they'll compete in.  Act as a judge to make sure rules are followed.  Measure distance of jump or throw and record the results.  

 

Softball Throw/Tennis Ball Throw/Mini Jav

Check in athletes.  Group athletes in their correct divisions.  Act as a judge to make sure rules are followed.  Measure distance of throw and record the results.  

 

Softball Throw/Tennis Ball Throw Shaggers

Throw back softballs and tennis ball thrown by athletes in the events of Softball Throw and Tennis Ball Throw.  This position ideal for younger volunteers. 

 

Results Runners

Brings results sheets from Awards Area to Tournament Central.

 

Awards

Line up athletes in correct order of how they will be awarded.  Us a PA to present awards.

 

Photographer

Take pictures of the event.  Must have their own camera.  

 

Opening Ceremonies

You'll be assigned to an agency and you will escort them into the stadium as they are announced.  

 

Event Operations

Pick up trash during event.  Make sure porta-johns are fully stocked.  Take any additional equipment to venues during the event. 

 

Athlete Hospitality - Contact Us

Hand out food and work games at the Olympic Village. 

 

Track Security - Must be 18

Watch track entrances and exits.  Make sure only authorized people are allowed into the track. 

 

Souvenirs - Must be 18

Inventory and sell Special Olympics Souvenirs.  Must be comfortable with handling money. 

 

This event is held rain or shine.

 

***Notice***

This event is always very popular with volunteers!  Many groups have pre-registered for a set number of volunteer roles.  If you are with a group, please check with your group leader for your special reservation code.

 

If you are not part of a group, and the role you would like is full, please check back closer to the event, as some of the roles may be released by groups not able to fill them.
