Opportunity Details | Food Reclamation (Mon-Fri, afternoons & evenings)
Opportunity Name:
Food Reclamation (Mon-Fri, afternoons & evenings) |
|
Description:
Food Bank of Alaska accepts donations of produce from grocers around Anchorage. While some of this produce is often at the end of its usable life, Food Bank of Alaska gives this product a second chance by making it available to our Agencies and Mobile Food Pantry Clients. We need volunteers to sort and clean up the product in order to provide quality food to our community!
Caution: If you have severe food or mold allergies, please do not volunteer at this activity!
We will be working with food in the warehouse, so please dress appropriately (layers and closed toe shoes, avoid wearing jewelry). Volunteers should be able to be on their feet for the full shift. Note: volunteers wearing open-toed shoes will be turned away from participating.
Upon arriving at Food Bank of Alaska, enter through the "Main Entrance" door. Sign in on the sign-in sheet or on your phone, then follow the arrows to the volunteer area in the warehouse.
Occasionally, our drivers do not receive donations from grocers, leading to insufficient amounts of produce for this activity. In these cases, Food Reclamation will be cancelled. Please monitor your email on the day you are registered in case we must cancel this activity.
Please note that we cannot take volunteers who are under the age of 14 at this event.
Volunteers under the age of 16 must have a parent or legal guardian present during their volunteer service.
We need a specific number of volunteers to ensure we are able to efficiently serve all clients so we request the following:
Media Policy Food Bank of Alaska reserves the right to film or photograph volunteer activities for its uses. If you prefer to not be filmed or photographed, please let us know at the start of your shift.
Volunteers are permitted to film or photograph themselves or group members, so long as it does not create a disruption or infringe upon the privacy of other volunteers. If you happen to photograph or video a volunteer not in your party, or a partner agency, please inform the Manager of Volunteer Resources for guidance before using media publicly.
