2024 Summer Games Activities & Event Support (Stillwater)

Special Olympics Minnesota's Summer Games is being held June 21-23 and we are looking for volunteers to help make the day happen! 

 

No experience? No problem! A detailed training is given at the beginning of each shift-you don't need to have any experience, just a great attitude and willingness to be a part of a day that athletes look forward to all year!

 

You're welcome to sign up for any of the following roles:

• Set Up/Tear Down:
  
  • We will need assistance in setting up our registration, staging and awards area. This opportunity may involve physical demands (e.g. climb stairs, carrying, lifting, etc.) as the actions are essential function to the role. Any lifting will be over 50 pounds. Event setup may include unloading and setting up chairs, tables, various other pieces of equipment. Hanging up banners, and other miscellaneous duties needed. 
• Delegation & Volunteer Check In:
  
  • Work with SOMN staff to check in and welcome Special Olympics teams and volunteers to the event!
  • This role will be under a covered tent and may involve some movement. 
• Lunch Assistant:
  
  • Help with organizing, handing out and cleaning up lunch for Special Olympics athletes and coaches. 
  • This role will be indoor and involves some movement & lifting. 
• Merchandise Assistant:
  
  • With SOMN staff, sell merchandise to event participants. 
  • This role uses an Ipad (training provided), is outdoors under a covered tent and requires some movement. 
• Fans in the Stands
  
  • Cheer on athletes during competitions! 
  • This is a flexible opportunity for all to support the SOMN movement. 
• Young Athletes Activities Assistant
  
  • Assist our youngest community members as they explore activities, obstacle courses and more!
• Power Team:
  
  • Keep water stations restocked and the event facility clean along with providing golf cart transportation to participants as needed. 
  • This position operates a golf cart, is outdoors and requires movement and some lifting (average of 20 pounds). 
• Activities Assistant:
  
  • Run fun & interactive activities in our Olympic Village!
  • This position will be outdoors and requires some movement. 
  • Activities currently include a photo booth and basketball court!
• Healthy Athletes Assistant:
  
  • Support Healthy Athlete screenings by escorting athletse through health stations and/or collecting check in information. 
  • There is no clinical experience required. 
  • This role is outdoors under a covered tent and requires some movement. 

Volunteer Expectations

• Volunteers must be 15 years or older to volunteer on their own.
• 12-14 year old volunteers are welcome when volunteering with chaperone/parent/guardian 18+.
• Interested volunteers who are under 12 are welcomed to cheer on athletes as fans in the stands with chaperone/parent/guardian 18+.     
• You may sign up for one or more shifts over the weekend.
• You'll receive a reminder email 1-2 weeks before the event with more details on parking, what to pack, etc. 
• All volunteers are expected to follow Special Olympics Minnesota’s Volunteer Code of Conduct.
