2024 Regional Metro Golf - Hastings

Special Olympics Minnesota's Regional Metro Golf competition is being held on July 29 and we are looking for volunteers to help make the day happen! We hope to see you there!

 

No golf experience? No problem! A detailed training is given at the beginning of each shift. You're welcome to sign up for any of the following roles:

• General Event Support: 
  
  • Check in and welcome athletes, teams, and volunteers.
  • Volunteers will also fill in other spots or jump in to help where needed. They may have a shorter shift than scheduled.
  • This is a great role for someone who is flexible and a self starter!
• Scorekeeper:
  
  
  • Keep track of athlete's scores on each hole.
  • Connect with other scorekeepers/coaches in your group to confirm scores.
  • Must be 16+ and have driver's license to operate golf cart.
• Starter:
  
  
  • Check in athletes/teams at their starting hole.
  • Ensure tee times are all present before starting their round.
• Skills Assistant:
  
  
  • Guide athletes through 6 different stations working on their individual skills.
  • Score stations using SOMN scoresheet.
• Awards Assistants:
  
  • Organize and prepare awards for athletes.
  • Announce names and places of athletes during award ceremony.

Volunteer Expectations….

• Volunteers must be 15 years or older to volunteer on their own.  
  
  • 12-14 year old volunteers are welcome when volunteering with chaperone/parent/guardian 18+.
  • Interested volunteers who are under 12 are welcomed to cheer on athletes as fans in the stands with chaperone/parent/guardian 18+.     
• You may sign up for one or more shifts.
• There is no smoking, alcohol consumption, or drug use by volunteers.
• Abusive behavior toward athletes, other volunteers or staff will not be tolerated.
• Please don't exchange personal information with any athlete.
• Cancellations
  
  • If event is canceled you will be notified by email & text message.
  • Cancellation calls are made only on the morning of the event.
• Wear
  
  • Comfortable clothing & shoes. 
  • Volunteer t-shirt (given when you check in).
• Parking/Transportation
  
  • Plan to arrive 15 minutes before your shift starts to check in.
  • Parking is available on site.
  • Please contact us if you would like any support with other transportation options.
• Pack
  
  • Any meals or snacks needed-lunch will not be provided. (Concessions will be available to purchase on site. Please contact us if this presents any hardship or prevents your ability to volunteer).
  • A water bottle.
