Community Kitchen VOLUNTEERS NEEDED- Breakfast & Dinner

Thank you for volunteering at The Salvation Army Community Kitchen.  

 

From this Community Kitchen, we serve free meals to the hungry and homeless 365 days a year - thanks to the support of donors and volunteers. Meals are served as sit-down or take-out, with indoor & outdoor eating spaces.  

 

This is a VITAL service to the community and our one-person kitchen staff is not able to serve and manage food in the short time allowed without your help! 

• LOCATION: The community kitchen is located at 300 Webster in downtown Waco.
• AGE:  Volunteers must be 18 years old to be in the shelter unattended.  16 years old with adult supervision.  
• TASKS:  Please be flexible. Volunteers will be expected to serve meals, prep supplies, check in guests, wash dishes, help clean up, and do other tasks.
• DRESS CODE:  The Dress Code requires closed-toe shoes or sneakers, long pants (no shorts, no SHORTY SHORTS, tank tops, leggings, athletic pants or skirts). We supply and require hairnets, gloves, and aprons for anyone in the food/service area.   We also would like our volunteers to not wear any article of clothing that displays alcohol or drug emblems or prompts.  We are working with a group of recovering, or potential current addicts, and we would like to promote freedom from addiction.  Thank you for your understanding! 
• SHIFTS:  Please arrive promptly by 4:30 p.m. and expect to stay until 6:30 p.m. for clean-up or 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. for Sunday breakfast.
• PARKING:  Drive through the side gate and park. The entrance door is under the metal awning. Ask for the monitor on duty and they will direct you.
• SIGN IN:  Volunteers must sign in and out in the 'volunteer binder' as we must track volunteer hours. If you need to track your own volunteer hours, please do so.  We do not have the capacity to monitor individual hours. 
• PAPERWORK NEEDED:  If this is your first volunteer date in this calendar year, please sign/complete a waiver found in the binder (only once per calendar year).
• PRECAUTIONS:  For the safety of the vulnerable population that we serve, if you are ill or a member of your household is ill, however mild, please do not volunteer until healed, or wear a mask.  In addition, per Texas laws, sex offenders cannot volunteer at this location.

If you need to cancel or reschedule please cancel your registration online (If the day of or before) and contact Dinah Mills, Volunteer Coordinator, by texting 254.379.2430.  Leave your name and service date so we can manage our system and kitchen staff.  We hope you don't have to cancel!
