Opportunity Details | [new] PROJECT: Clean the Way

The Harm Reduction and Street Outreach Team at Damien Center is looking to begin a new neighborhood clean-up initiative with the clients, volunteers and community partners of the Damien Center. In our goal to promote public health and wellness within the greater Indianapolis area, we are looking to launch PROJECT: CLEAN THE WAY this May 2024!

This initiative, made possible through new grant funding, will help us achieve our goal of cleaning up and restoring various areas within the Indianapolis community. Volunteers will meet on the third Saturday of each month and work alongside Damien Center Harm Reduction and Street Outreach staff to remove waste and debris from high traffic areas in the community, interact with the local community members in the area, and help to promote a safe and clean outdoor environment for all of Indianapolis.

The Damien Center will be able to provide any and all materials and training needed for volunteers to participate in the opportunity both safely and efficiently. This opportunity is a great fit for those who might be looking for a low commitment but high reward opportunity, those looking to volunteer in a group setting, and for those who like to spend time outdoors or have an interest in neighborhood/habitat restoration.

• All Damien Center volunteers must create a volunteer profile and complete our Damien 101 online volunteer training before their first volunteer session. 
• Must have a signed Waiver of Liability on file in volunteer profile. 
• Must be able to lift five to ten pounds (5-10lbs) at a time in a labor setting. 
• Must be able to sit, stand and/or walk or otherwise travel without burden for up to four (4) hours at a time. 
• Must complete any relevant training or instruction from HRSO staff as required. Must be willing and able to follow the direction of Damien Center HRSO staff leading each opportunity.
