2024 Summer Games - Soccer

 

The 2024 State Summer Games Soccer Tournament will be held on Saturday, June 1st at Eastern Kentucky University. 

 

Volunteers are needed to assist with facilitating the tournament. Review the volunteer roles below and consider coming out to take part in the most highly anticipated Special Olympics Kentucky competitive event of the year! 

 

Age Eligibility for Volunteers:

 

Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age. Those under 14 must be accompanied by an adult for the entirety of their service. Some volunteer roles have a specific age requirement. Review each description below for more details. 

 

Those under the age of 8 years old will not be given a volunteer assignment but, are welcomed and encouraged to attend the event to serve as fans in the stands to cheer on athletes as long as they are accompanied by any adult.

 

Volunteer Roles:

 

Announcer: Responsible for announcing starting line-ups, athletes entering and exiting the game, etc. Announcers need to be comfortable with speaking through a PA system. 

 

Field Personnel: Assist with the set up and break down of the fields. Assist the referees by providing game balls to athletes when the ball is taken out of play and retrieving the balls when kicked out of bounds. Ideal role for individuals looking for a youth volunteer opportunity, must be at least 8 years old. 

 

Scoreboard Operator: Responsible for keeping the score on the scoreboard. No prior experience or sport knowledge is required. Ideal role for a first time volunteer. 

 

Official: USSF or other soccer official certified volunteers are needed to officiate. Games will ideally be officiated using the three person system.

 

Volunteers are asked to remain in their role for the entire shift.
