Description:
The 2023 State Summer Games Track and Field Competition will take place on Friday, May 31st and Saturday, June 1st at Eastern Kentucky University.
Volunteers are needed to assist with facilitating competition events. Review the volunteer roles below and consider coming out to take part in the most highly anticipated Special Olympics Kentucky competitive event of the year!
Age Eligibility for Volunteers:
Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age. Those under the age of 14 years old will not be given a volunteer assignment but, are welcomed and encouraged to attend the event to serve as fans in the stands to cheer on athletes as long as they are accompanied by any adult.
Some volunteer roles have a specific age requirement. Review each description below for more details.
Volunteer Roles:
Track Events
Track Staging Personnel - Assist with getting athletes prepared to run their races by placing them into their respective heats and then escorting them to the start line. Volunteers in this role must be at least 16 years of age.
Finish Line Greeters - Escort athletes from competition venues to awards area. Volunteers in this role must be at least 16 years of age.
Relay Zone Judges - Assist with athlete placement into zones/lanes and with the judging of exchanges during competition. Volunteers in this role must be at least 18 years of age.
Developmental Events - Assist by staging of athletes, measuring/timing of competition events, recording distances/times, and the presentation of awards.
Athlete Escort - Assist with the staging of athletes for the Competition. Volunteers in this role must be at least 16 years of age.
Field Events
Field Events Escort/Staging - Escort athletes from the venue of their event to the awards area. Assist with the staging of athletes to prepare them for competition in the Field Events staging tent. Volunteers in this role must be at least 16 years of age.
Running Long Jump - Assist by measuring jumps, recording jumps, preparing the jump pit and the staging of athletes.
Standing Long Jump - Assist by measuring jumps, recording distances, the staging of athletes, and the presentation of awards.
Volunteers are asked to remain in their role for the entire shift.
