Fixers Wanted (8 opportunities)
Are you good at fixing things and willing to help others? The Lacey Maker Space, in collaboration with The Evergreen State College and Thurston County Solid Waste, is seeking volunteers to staff a Fix-It Fair on May 8. Fix-it Fairs are community gatherings bringing neighbors together to provide free repair services to the public while reducing landfill waste and passing on vital skills. These hands-on events are open to everyone and provide an empowering opportunity for individuals to learn how to repair items – like small appliances and electronics – for themselves and others.

We’re looking for volunteers with expertise in the following areas:

Clothing repairs – zippers, patches, etc.
Small appliance electrical cords, switches, bulb sockets, etc.
Light woodwork
Light welding & soldering
Broken ceramics
Bicycles
Knife & tool sharpening
Guidance and consulting on other items outside the scope of the current event’s capacity

Some tools and materials will be provided by the event, but fixers might be asked to bring select items.

Time commitment:

1 hour event training in late April or early May (required)
Up to 6 hours on Wednesday, May 8 (1:00 to 7:00 pm).
Breaks will be provided periodically and as needed.
