Overview

This class is intended for volunteers ages 12 and up. Families volunteering with children younger then 12 should attend the FAMILY orientation class.

Orientation includes history & tour of the shelter as well as an overview of volunteer needs & activities.

Please Note: Once they have completed the Adult Orientation class, all new volunteers are now required to complete 12 hours in a Shelter Support role helping with basic shelter maintenance before they are eligible to work hands on with the animals.

Requirements for ALL volunteers:

  • Thoroughly read the Volunteer Handbook
  • Our Volunteer Program requires that all volunteers have access to internet and email. Our volunteer site is online and volunteers are required to use this site to apply, complete training, and sign up for their volunteer shifts.
  • Adult volunteers who are at least 12 years old and up are required to commit to a regular recurring schedule of at least two 3-hour shifts a month and will be assigned a recurring schedule based on their availability once they have completed orientation.
  • Attend Volunteer Orientation.
  • For a charge of $10 per person, you will receive training and an HES t-shirt.
  • Volunteers age 7-15 must be accompanied by an adult at all times through training and volunteer duties.
  • We use the Band program as our primary source of communication with volunteers. New volunteers will be asked to download the Band app and sign up for an account using their first and last name.
