Greeter at TLFB Grocery Distribution APRIL-MAY 2024

Hi!  Thank you for volunteering your time to help out at Twin Lakes Food Bank.  Our greeters are very important as it's the first impression our guests get of the food bank.  There are 2 greeters at every food distribution.  Our cart greeter is inside the registration room and will assist guests with getting carts and USDA bags.  This person will also monitor the guests selecting items from the shelf up front.  Our safety greeter stands outside and welcomes the guests standing in line.  This person also asks if anyone is a first-time guest, and will get them a new intake form to complete before they get up to the front of the line.  The safety greeter also will communicate with the guests in line about our trucks backing in and unloading food.  This person also monitors carts, and makes sure guests only take carts to their cars for unloading and then bring them back across the street to TLFB.  

 

Please wear close-toed shoes for your safety, and bring a reusable water bottle.  Also, please plan to park at Mt.Olive Church located across the street from the food bank.  Please park on the side that is NOT directly across the street from TLFB so it is easier for our guests to park closer.

 

Also, please review the following roles and responsibilities BEFORE you volunteer:

 

GREETING
(1 volunteer: Safety Greeter, 8:30am start)
First and foremost, treat people with kindness!
• Work outside while guests coming to the food bank are waiting in line to get food by the registration 
office. 
• Alert guests when a TLFB vehicle is backing up onto the driveway to unload food after a grocery store 
pick up.
• Ask if any of the guests in line are new. If so, please get them a client intake form, pen and 
clipboard, so that they can complete the forms before getting up to the front of the line. (This will 
help in not slowing up the line.)
• Please make sure that there is a vacant parking space cordoned off with orange cones as a 
designated cart return area. Ask Director of Operations for assistance with this, if needed. 
• Be responsible for making sure carts in the Mt. Olive Church parking lot are rounded up and 
returned to TLFB. If guests appear to be unhoused and are using a grocery cart, please make sure 
that they return the cart. It is very important that the safety greeter help prevent cart loss as much 
as possible. 
• If needed, this person will also help elderly or disabled guests out to their cars with their groceries. 
(1 volunteer: Cart Greeter, 8:30am start)
First and foremost, treat people with kindness!
• Greet guests as they enter the premises.
• If guests have a dog, please refer them to the sign on the door regarding our policy on animals.
• If there is a line, let them know you will be right with them.
• Manage the flow of guests. Direct them to the 3-item shelf. (Please keep an eye out for guests 
who may take many more items than three.)

• After the guest selects their items, provide them with a shopping cart and then direct them to
Meat/Dairy Counter. If they are new guests, walk them down to the correct door to enter the 
Meat/Dairy Counter area.
• If Registration confirms that guest would like a TEFAP bag, hand one to the guest.
• When inventory of unhoused bags (on shelf below TEFAP bags) is running low, ask Bagging Room 
for more bags. 
• If we are temporarily out of shopping carts, let the guests know there is a little delay, but we will 
help them as soon as possible.
