Opportunity Name:
Gathering at Kuruvungna Village Springs

Description:

Saturday, May 18 from 9:30 AM to 3 PM, TPF has been invited by the Gabrielino-Tongva Springs Foundation to their Gathering Event at Kuruvungna, celebrating the Survival of the Springs.

We're looking for volunteers to assist TPF staff with facilitating programming and providing our resources to event visitors. There will also be opportunities to share about the plantings TPF has conducted at Kuruvungna.

Gabrielino-Tongva Springs hosts the village of Kuruvungna, meaning "a place where we are in the sun." The springs have been used as a source of fresh water by the Tongva since at least the 5th century B.C., producing up to 25,000 gallons daily. Today, Kuruvungna hosts an active community site, with native plant gardens, food gardens, and a museum of Indigenous history and artifacts alongside the restored Springs and village site. To learn more about Kuruvungna, see this overview video TPF produced for the 2022 Native Plant Garden Tour.
