Retail Route for May 2024

Below is a brief explanation of what the volunteer opportunity entails.

1. When you arrive at the Foodbank, you will receive a clipboard. You will also receive the keys to one of our vans. Inside the van will be 1-2 pallets, empty boxes, and a temperature gun.
2. You will go to each store. I will provide instructions about where to park at each store, and try to provide a contact name/number. For example, some stores have receiving doors at the back of the building and some stores have the volunteers park at the front of the building.
3. At most of the stores the donated items will either be in grocery carts or set aside on a separate shelving area. You will need to separate the items by category (i.e. bakery, meat, produce, dairy, etc.) and put each category into separate boxes. Then write on the boxes which store(s) the items came from. This is important so that we can provide accurate donation receipts to each store.
4. The number of boxes needs to be recorded on the clipboard. For example, if there are three boxes of produce, you will write “3 boxes” on the paper. Before loading any meat, dairy, or produce, the temperature of those items must be taken and recorded before leaving the store.
5. Once you have completed the route, you will return to the Foodbank. Bring the clipboard inside and return to Meghan.
