Event Description:

Volunteers are the backbone of Special Olympics Minnesota and the Polar Plunge. We rely on volunteers to make our events happen and to help us provide a great experience for our participants. Volunteering is a ton of fun, and—best yet—you get to stay dry!

 

Volunteer Job Descriptions

  • Check-in/Registration Assistant- Assist with tasks including: directing participants, checking in/registering participants, collecting donations, etc. Must be able to use an iPad for check-in.
  • Concessions- Prep and sell popcorn, candy, soda, water, coffee and hot chocolate.  Located inside heated tent.
  • Incentives Assistant- Distribute incentives to participants based on the fundraising levels they have reached.
  • Merchandise Assistant- Assist SOMN staff at the merchandise tent selling gear to participants and spectators.
  • Power Team - moving things from one area to another, setting up something that’s broken, emptying trash, driving our onsite gators/golf cart vehicles to pick up items from delivery, etc. Might have to lift up to 25 lbs. Most of these tasks will be outside, please dress accordingly.
  • Set-up Assistant - Assist SOMN staff with setting up the event area.  This position will include lifting objects heavier than 35 pounds and other physical tasks. Most of these tasks will be outside, please dress accordingly.
  • Snowflake P. Bear - This volunteer role will wear the famous Snowflake P. Bear costume and be present at metro Polar Plunge locations, cheering on Plungers, mingling the event site, engaging with spectators, bantering with local media celebrities and more.This position will need a handler to guide them around the site.
  • Tear-Down Assistant - Assist SOMN Staff with tearing down the event area.  This position will include lifting objects heavier than 35 pounds and other physical tasks. Most of these tasks will be outside, please dress accordingly.

Age Requirement

Ages 12-14
Can register alongside an adult 18 . (Please register both the adult and child 12-14)

Ages 15
Can register as an individual.
