Objective: To enhance the overall patient experience and to supplement the work of the University of Maryland Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute staff by assisting and interacting with patients, their families and visitors.
Training:
General UM Rehab & Ortho Volunteer Orientation
Department Specific Orientation.
Duties Include:
Operating office equipment: telephone, computer, fax and copier.
Assisting the team as they prep and sterilize instruments.
Assisting the team with stocking the department and core.
May deliver and pick up equipment/supplies from and to various areas of the hospital.
Supporting staff in assigned project-based work.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications:
Possess a positive, service-orientated attitude and compassion for patients.
Be able to communicate clearly and follow directions.
Be able to demonstrate initiative.
Responsibilities:
To maintain confidentiality at all times.
To work effectively with others.
To recognize and respects the needs of our patients and their families.
To ask for help when needed.
To report any safety issues to supervisor/staff.
To follow the policies and procedures outlined in the Volunteer Handbook.
To be able to lift 15-20 lbs.
Volunteers may not do the following:
Transfer or handle patients.
Handle soiled linen.
Handle medications.
Handle contaminated equipment/supplies.
Assist patients with meals unless you have been trained and cleared with the nurse.
