Description:

As a volunteer, your job duties might include:

  • Coming in contact with donated items that are dirty, mildewed, smelly, wet, smoke damaged, or otherwise not in favorable condition.
  • Lifting heavier items and moving furniture (based on individual limitations)
  • General cleaning such as taking out trash, dusting, window cleaning, vacuuming, and cleaning bathrooms. Other cleaning duties could be ask of volunteers.
  • Sorting donations that include, but not limited to, clothing, kitchenware, houseware, décor, and children’s items.

 

All volunteers are expected to:

  • Respect confidentiality and privacy
  • Maintain a professional attitude toward customers, staff, and other volunteers
  • Give notice if your availability changes or you’re unable to complete a scheduled shift
  • Report any injuries or hazards you notice in the workplace
  • Maintain a work/shopping space free of harassment and behaviors that may be construed as discriminatory
  • Ask for support when needed
  • Give feedback on processes and working conditions
  • Clean up areas used during the shift including any items on tables or counter, clothing or linens remaining on storage racks, supplies or carts used during volunteer shift.

 

Shopping as a Volunteer

  • Volunteers on a regular schedule will receive 10% off purchases.
  • Volunteers not on a regular schedule are not eligible for a discount.
  • Volunteers may only shop before or after their shift.
  • Volunteers may not
    • Shop in the storage room
    • Seek prices for items that have been donated during their shift. The exception being clothing that would not otherwise be sold for a higher price or listed on Mercari.
    • Create stickers with prices unless otherwise specifically trained

 

 

 

Reasons a volunteer may be relieved of duties without notice:

  • Mismatched talents
  • Negligence
  • Being unable to fulfill duties as assigned/asked or stay on task
  • Shopping/discount rules are not followed
  • Unprofessionalism/misconduct
  • Theft or changing stickers/prices
  • Attendance issues or lack of communication when missing a scheduled shift
  • Drug/alcohol possession or use at the store
