Hours: 2 Hours at the same time each week, To Be Determined


Responsibilities: Tutoring for adult/senior patrons. One-on-one time with patron will last 30 minutes. Volunteer will help patrons with basic computer use, introduction to Microsoft Office products such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc., as well as internet basics, email, e-readers and possibly other subjects. While the majority of assistance will be at the basic level there is a demand for more advanced topics as well. Tutorial subjects will be determined by the patron during sign up and the volunteer will know ahead of time what subject to prepare for. Volunteers would be required to dedicate 30 minute time blocks. The library will provide space and equipment, and will handle program sign ups. 


Qualifications: Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. All selected candidates must complete a background check and a minimum commitment of 3 months. Strong oral communication skills are needed. There should be a high level of comfort with technology. Applicants should also be dependable, cooperative and flexible.


Knowledge: Tutor should have strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively.


Training: This position requires a 1 hour training that will cover course materials as well as equipment.


As Volunteers: You will acquire new skills and gain recognized work experience while helping the Library achieve its goals.

 

As of October 2021, Charlotte Mecklenburg Library began requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment for any new employees. Safety for all employees, volunteers, and customers is extremely important. Now that volunteers are returning to the Library, we require that all volunteers be fully vaccinated, as defined by the CDC
