Urban Movements

Urban Movements is a dance program for children and youth in the Mission Waco programs. We are looking for volunteers who can lead or assist teachers with dance classes. We are open to offering a different dance classes including ballet, hip hop, jazz, tap, etc.   In addition, volunteers will provide support to the staff of the after school program children and/or youth of different levels.

 

It is helpful to have volunteers who have a minimum of 3 years of experience with dance and some teaching experience. 

 

If you are interested in volunteering with the Urban Movement to help teach dance, please contact Carlton Willis at cwillis@missionwaco.org to set up a meeting to discuss program needs and your interests and skill set. From there, depending on your schedule and the program needs for the semester, Carlton will connect you to the children & youth program staff to set a schedule for lessons.  

 

Volunteer Requirements 

Please note that prior to volunteering with children & youth in our creative arts programs, you will need to complete a background check, the general volunteer orientation, the sexual abuse prevention training, and the children & youth training. You can sign up for the full training process here at this link! If the listed times do not work for the children & youth training, please reach out to McKenzie Lacy at mmiller@missionwaco.org. Background checks are also required yearly for volunteers working with children & youth.  

 

Class Times for the Fall 2023 - TBD

Class typically takes place from 4:00 – 5:00 for children (elementary age) and 5:00- 6:00 for youth (middle school and high school). Days of the week for Urban Movement is TBD.

 

Please plan to arrive 15 minutes prior to start time to help with set up and to stay 15 minutes late to help with break down.

Fall program will run September 5th - November 16th. Please see the dates below that we will not have program.

• Monday Sept. 25th - WISD holiday (no program)
• Monday Oct. 9th- Thursday Oct. 12th - WISD holiday & staff conference (no program)
• Monday Oct. 30th - WISD holiday (no program)
