Description:
Responsibilities: Technology tutoring and training for adult/senior patrons. One-on-one time with patron will last 50 minutes. Volunteer will help patrons with basic computer use introduction to Microsoft Office such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc., as well as internet basics, emails, e-readers, smartphones, and possibly other subjects. While the majority of assistance will be at the basic level there is a demand for more advanced topic as well. The library will provide space and equipment and will handle program signs ups.
In the event of a customer no show or lack of registration, library staff will make an announcement about available session. If no customers are interested, volunteer will assist in monitoring the library's computer lab for ad hoc technology help.
Qualifications: Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. All selected candidates must complete a background check and a minimum commitment of 3 months. Strong oral communication skills are needed. There should be a high level of comfort with technology. Applicants should be dependable, cooperative, self starters and flexible.
Knowledge: Tutor should have strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively. Knowledge of computers and technology are essential.
Training: This position requires a hour training that cover course materials as well as equipment.
As Volunteers: You will acquire new skills and gain recognized work experience while helping the library achieve its goals. |
