Allegra Westbrooks 1-on-1 Reading Support for Adult

Responsibilities: 

·         Help customer increase their reading confidence, fluency and comprehension by reading aloud with an adult/senior patrons.

• Conduct 60-minute reading support sessions with assigned adult learners.
• Assist learners in improving their reading comprehension, vocabulary, and fluency.
• Select appropriate reading materials based on the learner's interests and reading level.
• Provide constructive feedback and encouragement to help learners achieve their goals.
• Maintain session records and progress reports as required by the organization.
• Attend periodic training sessions and meetings to enhance your skills as a volunteer.

Qualifications: 

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. All selected candidates must complete a background check and a minimum commitment of 3 months. Strong oral communication skills are needed. Strong passion for literacy and a desire to make a positive impact on others. Patience, empathy, and excellent interpersonal skills. Applicants should also be dependable, cooperative and flexible.

 

Knowledge: Tutor should have strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively. Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to adapt your approach to different learning styles.

Reliability and commitment to the agreed-upon schedule.

Previous experience in tutoring, teaching, or adult education (preferred but not required).

 

Training: This position requires an hour training that will cover course materials as well as equipment.
