Age Requirement: 18 years old or older

 

The South County Regional Library Makerspace is looking for a dependable volunteer to work one on one with a patron to teach the basics of sewing. The session would last 1 hour. This includes the machine basics and threading the machine, the different stitch types, and practicing stitches on scrap fabric. If time allows, possibly show them a small project. 

 

The South County Makerspace is a learning environment for people to connect with others and create meaningful projects, using technologies and other tools that might not be easily accessible.  

 

 

Hours: 1 hour, once a month with prep time; flexible 

 


Responsibilities: Volunteers commit to teaching a 1-hour lesson to a single patron once a month. Patrons are required to register for this session in advance.   


 

Qualifications:  




  • Advanced experience with sewing machines  


  • Minimum age of 18 


  • Required to complete a background check 


  • Willing to commit to a minimum of 3 months 


  • Patient, tolerant, and caring manner 


  • Strong social and speaking skills 


  • Dependable, cooperative, and flexible 


Supplies

  • The makerspace will provide the sewing machine, thread, and scrap fabric.
