Raleigh Rose Garden Volunteer

Project Description:

Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources is seeking individuals interested in volunteering for the Raleigh Rose Garden Volunteer program. This is an ongoing, year-long opportunity. Volunteer dates are set by the volunteer.

The Raleigh Rose Garden is open to the public 7 days a week. It was dedicated in 1951, the finishing touch to the WPA landmark Raleigh Little Theatre campus. Since then, the Raleigh Rose Garden has offered a year-round display of roses, trees, and perennials. The grounds include sixty rose beds with varieties of hybrid teas, floribundas, grandifloras, miniatures, and antique roses, surrounded by an arboretum of evergreen and deciduous trees.

Volunteer Duties:

The primary goal of the volunteer group is to help care for the rose beds and bushes. Garden volunteers will work alongside the Raleigh Rose Garden head gardener. Responsibilities may include pruning, weeding, deadheading, and more.

Work Environment:

Volunteers will be working outside, so please dress for the weather. Volunteers need to wear loose, comfortable clothing that can get dirty as well as closed-toe shoes. There are restrooms on site for volunteers.

Volunteer Requirements:

To volunteer, you must be at least 18 years old. After attending training, volunteers are needed to assist biweekly. A volunteer application and background form must be completed and passed in order to participate. Volunteers must attend an orientation before beginning.

Per department policy this event cannot count towards court-appointed or suggested community service hours.
