Service Description
Materials Management Volunteer
Objective: To enhance the overall patient experience and to supplement the work of the University of Maryland Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute staff by assisting and interacting with patients, their families and visitors.
Training:
▪ General UM Rehab & Ortho Volunteer Orientation
▪ Department Specific Orientation.
Duties Include:
▪ Operating office equipment: telephone, computer, fax and copier.
▪ Assisting the Materials Management Department.
▪ Assisting the team with receiving, storing, stocking of supplies.
▪ May assist with inventory and departmental organization.
▪ May deliver and pick up equipment/supplies from and to various areas of the hospital.
▪ Supporting staff in assigned project-based work.
▪ Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications:
▪ Possess a positive, service-orientated attitude and compassion for patients.
▪ Be able to communicate clearly and follow directions.
▪ Be able to demonstrate initiative.
Responsibilities:
▪ To maintain confidentiality at all times.
▪ To work effectively with others.
▪ To recognize and respect the needs of our patients and their families.
▪ To ask for help when needed.
▪ To report any safety issues to supervisor/staff.
▪ To follow the policies and procedures outlined in the Volunteer Handbook.
▪ To be able to lift 40-50 lbs, push and/or pull supplies.
Volunteers may not do the following:
▪ Transfer or handle patients.
▪ Handle soiled linen.
▪ Handle medications.
▪ Handle contaminated equipment/supplies.
▪ Assist patients with meals unless you have been trained and cleared with the nurse.
